Biography
Rachel Siporin is a Painter/Printmaker whose work focuses on narrative and observation. Siporin is from a multi-generational family of artists, which may explain why artists’ conversations are a recurring theme, creating the foundation for Homage to the Happenings/The Artist as Performer and Audience ( Bowery Gallery, 2017), Black Mountain College, color etchings and, most recently, Murals in the Marketplace, Paintings and Etchings (Bowery Gallery, 2022.)
Rachel Siporin is Professor of Art Emeritus at Central Connecticut State University, where she taught Painting and Drawing for many years. Siporin received her BA from Brandeis University, and MFA in Painting from Yale University. Michael Mazur introduced Rachel Siporin to Printmaking as an Undergraduate at Brandeis University. She studied painting with James Weeks and Gabriel Laderman at Boston University’s Summer Program at Tanglewood, and with Gretna Campbell, William Bailey, Lester Johnson and Bernard Chaet at Yale University. Rachel Siporin’s Solo Exhibitions include three exhibitions at the Bowery Gallery, NYC, 2014, 2017 and 2022, Color Woodcuts, Alexey von Schlippe Gallery, University of Connecticut at Avery Point, 2014, and The Limit of the Marvelous, M55 Mercer Street Gallery in 2006.
